Featured Review from Oh My Rockness
September 02, 2012Ah, good old emo. When a girl not loving you is the only thing that matters in the entire world. New York’s Coheed & Cambria make up for their terrible band name by creating fairly decent metal-pop-punk and most-decidedly emo music that should be firmly entrenched on your “guilty pleasure” shelf.

July 30, 2012With two near-perfect albums under their New Mexican belts, it would be understandable for The Shins to want some time to roll around drunk and naked in their money, feeling the softness of benjamins caressing their bums. more at ohmyrockness.com

Featured Review from ChicagoInnerview
May 31, 2012It’s no wonder that the incredibly catchy cross-genre hit of last summer, “Pumped Up Kicks,” was written by a professional jingle composer. Foster the People’s frontman and namesake, Mark Foster, writes songs starting with the drums to create relentlessly danceable beats. He’ll often counter the light-hearted mood with a heavy theme by employing edgy lyrics exploring a particular character, such as a bullied kid with a gun in the popular anti-hipster anthem. Joined by bassist Cubbie Fink and drummer Mark Pontius, debut album Torches shows off a range of musical influences including electronica, funk, psychedelic, and surf rock, giving them a sound Foster describes as an electronic version of Blur. But it’s not all about being awesome and looking cool. Foster the People strive to give back through their partnership with the Do Good Bus, which drives fans to surprise volunteer activities in the communities through which they tour. June 04, 2012“Radiohead’s 1997 album OK Computer catapulted the band to iconic status; the Oxford boys’ superhuman creativity, well-documented in the film Meeting People Is Easy, then drove them to take more chances with subsequent releases Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief. more at flavorpill.com

Featured Review from Chicago Reader
May 06, 2012Everyone has one song they’re willing to break out at any social occasion, absolutely certain it’ll be a hit no matter who’s there. For the second half of the aughts, I would play Electric Six’s “Danger! High Voltage” whenever a party looked like it was headed for an early demise. I’d sing it whenever the queue at a karaoke bar got clogged with requests for sappy, melodramatic ballads. Basically, whenever I had a spare moment, you were going to hear that song.more at chicagoreader.com

August 29, 2011True to his DJ name, San Francisco producer Lorin Ashton makes a point of generously gobbing on the lower frequencies to make a wild variety of dance music influences congeal in engagingly dense, grimy mixes. more at avclub.com
