Featured Review from ChicagoInnerview
April 02, 2012This London electro-pop quartet is full of surprises. Adorned with wild light shows and unfettered dance routines, their live shows never lose the capacity to make jaws drop. If you have not witnessed them before, you might wonder if Metronomy is a rock band or circus. This is not a bad thing, however. In fact, the band’s intention is to cause some head-scratching. more at chicagoinnerview.com

April 01, 2012Armed with one of the worst band names I’ve heard in a long time, Manchester, U.K.’s The Ting Tings are nevertheless starting to make a splash here across the Pond (although I think technically you have to be IN the Pond to make a splash, but semantics people, semantics) for their oh-so-catchy electro that makes the kids get up and shout, “I think I really rather like this!” more at ohmyrockness.com

March 23, 2012While of Montreal’s music has taken some strange turns in recent years — from the twee psych-pop of their early days to synth-tinted indie rock to outré electro funk to the dark tangents of last year’s Controller Sphere EP — their live show has settled into a predictably outlandish routine. more at flavorpill.com

March 22, 2012Loney Dear is the somber-sounding alterego of Swedish singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Emil Svanängen. Famous for his bedroom recordings and self-made CDRs, Svanängen has mastered the ability to write brief songs that are immediately satisfying and heartwarmingly hopeful. more at chicagoinnerview.com

February 04, 2012Typical of postmodern Internet crazes, South African rap crew Die Antwoord has its new American audience wondering whether it’s passionate or prankish—and whether it should be read as genuine cultural export or ridiculous parody. more at avclub.com
