- Zmick Zmick is a progressive rock/jam band formed in early 2007 in Urbana, Illinois. The music encompasses elements of jazz, progressive rock, reggae, electronica, funk, metal, Latin and world music. Zmick writes music with the intent of bringing people together and giving them an opportunity to dance, sing, laugh and bond with other music lovers. Zmick is made up of Dan Wonsover (Bass and Vocals), Brad Miller (Guitar and Vocals), Kris Ahrens (Drums and Vocals) and Don Rifkin (Keyboard and Vocals).Since 2007, Zmick has been creating a community where live music fans can congregate and enjoy life. From fall ’07 to spring ’09, Zmick held a residency at Canopy Club on Mondays, dubbed Monday Night Rage. Zmick hosted a great number of Midwestern bands, including Raoul Duke, Jaik Willis, Herbert Wiser Band, Hunab, The Fuz, Roster McCabe, Underpaid Packy, Bill Smith, and Mathien. During that time span, Zmick played Summer Camp Music Festival ’08 and ’09, Strip Mines Music Festival ’08, Wuhnurth Music Festival ’08, and Rossaroo Music Festival ’08. The band has shared the stage with the following headlining acts: Cornmeal, Garaj Mahal, EOTO, Lotus, Blind Melon, Tea Leaf Green, Family Groove Company, Future Rock, Vince Herman’s Great American Taxi, and Willie Waldman w/ Vinnie Amico of moe. All Zmick members are huge fans of elaborately composed progressive rock and jazz and broadly appealing “catchy vocal music.” Zmick has always strived to fuse the two different styles together with strong groove-oriented rhythms since the band’s inception. Herbert Wiser Band Keyboardist/ Vocalist Ryan Chamlin has been playing the keys for 17 years. Starting when he was in the 1st grade, he eventually attended Columbia College in Chicago studying music theory/composition. As a member of Bill Smith for 6 years, he definitely brings something very new to the HWB.Lead Guitarist/Vocals Josh Crowley is a native of Bloomington, IL and spends his days playing religiously (for he is a righteous man). His alternating use of dizzying effects and lightning fast guitar work make for a unique style that, at times, makes it difficult to walk. Bassist/Vocalist Matt Bradford is the shiest member of the band although you wouldn’t know it by his playing. Be it funk slap or straight jazz lines, Bradford always comes through with the goodness. He leaves audiences dazzled and hotel rooms devastated. Drummer and Southside Native Kyle Davis has been playing drums since he was a young child. After studying drums for a year at Minneanapolis, MN, he decided to move back to Chicago, to pursue music in a more hands- on environment. He is also the only White Sox fan in the band, which is too bad for him. Thinner Teed Breaking out of the jam-band mold & into your stereo. A blend of funk, prog rock and roots sensibilities sure to satisfy. Do you like funk, electro, bluegrass, jam influenced progressive rock and roll? You will start on planet funk, then in the blink of an eye you will be on a progressive corkscrew straight to the center of the bluegrass nebula.
