Last year saw Dastardly take great strides, both locally and beyond: the group embarked on four national tours, hitting both coasts, as well as a stop at SXSW and singer-guitarist Gabe Liebowitz quit his day job as a tour guide on a double-decker bus to run the band full time. Their new album, Bury Me In The Country, continues Dastardly's exploration of modern Americana, on it the band pines for the days of The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers, while remaining grounded in their urban Chicago surroundings.
Imagine the Replacements suffering through sweltering Midwestern summer nights instead of cold Minnesota winters, and infused with a little less punk and a little more dirty twang, and you have St. Louis’s Kentucky Knife Fight.
