- VHS or Beta formed in 1997 in Louisville, KY, when bassist Mark Palgy and guitarists Zeke Buck and Craig Pfunder met after high school. After a brief stint with noise punk and the addition of drummer Mark Guidry, they reformed in response to their love of house music, soul, and disco. The new sound, enhanced by keyboards, vocoder, samples, and electronic drums, eventually brought in hundreds of dancing people at their shows. Soon, the band released the vinyl-only EP ON & ON. After playing the 2000 South by Southwest music festival and negotiating with record labels, they released Le Funk on their own label, ON! Records, in June 2002. In summer 2002, VHS or Beta toured with I Am the World Trade Center. Chea Beckley was added for the band's performances to handle vocoder, samples, and keyboards. By the time the band's Astralwerks debut, Night on Fire, arrived in 2004, their sound owed more to dance-punk than Daft Punk. Over the next three years, the group hid out at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, NC, and concentrated on writing songs with producer Brandon Mason for their 2007 release Bring on the Comets. ~ Kenyon Hopkin, Rovi Sybris has been around. Hiding in the shadows of the side stages of Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Virgin Festivals but feeling most at home in a smokey bar on a tiny stage. Captivating new wave revivalist band Perfect Kiss mold edgy sensuality with electric dance beats to create a sound not heard since The Cure, Depeche Mode and other 80’s heavy-hitters. Their cutting edge style instantly allowed them to share the stage with national names such as Kirby Kaiser, Paul Van Dyk, Green Velvet, Major Lazer and White Mystery. Less than a year after their formation the group... was headlining North Coast Music Festival and multiple Lollapalooza after parties including the Hard Rock Hotel’s highly publicized event. Recently selected as one of the Top Bands in Chicago by Do312, Perfect Kiss has established themselves as one of the most respected artists in the scene.Currently in the studio creating exciting new material for the waiting ears, Perfect Kiss will be releasing their first professional EP in the Spring of 2012. Each new track will preserve their distinctly recognizable sound yet reflect their ever-evolving talent that will further solidify their place in Chicago's scene and begin their journey to national rise.

about 1 year agoAnother rock band that says, "Yes, but what I really want to do is dance." VHS or Beta met in the onetime indie mecca of Louisville (birthplace of Slint, Palace, and Rodan in its glory days) in 1997 and discovered that, besides indie rock, they were all kind of into disco, soul and French techno, too. So they started a band and people started dancing thinking they were listening to Duran Duran. more at ohmyrockness.com
