Event Details
2012, Todd Looby, USA, 63 min. With Amy Seimetz, Thomas Madden, Joe Swanberg Chicago-based filmmaker Looby, whose first feature LEFTY premiered at the Film Center in 2009, returns with this timely, autobiographically-inspired tale of the pressures and rewards of modern parenthood, shot mainly in the Ravenswood Manor area. Mary (indie fixture Seimetz) returns to work after maternity leave, leaving hubbie Paul (Madden of LEFTY) in charge of their high-maintenance baby while he struggles to complete a screenplay. How does role model Joe Swanberg (seen in an amusing cameo) manage to do the fatherhood thing and still crank out eight films a year? With plenty of wry observational humor but a lack of sitcom clichés, Looby perceptively explores the ironic dilemma faced by many young couples: “a mom feels guilty that she’s working; a dad feels guilty that he’s not.” HDCAM video. (MR) Filmmaker Todd Looby will be present for audience discussion at all screenings except Thursday.
