The ability to let go and be enthralled by a brilliant moment of entertainment or spectacle is at the heart of human experience. At every corner of the globe, people come together to enjoy the most popular and more obscure forms of human amusements. Some might say that Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements hopes to reinvent the traditions of Vaudeville for a 21st century audience – a live mash up of art forms and entertainment under one umbrella. Our ultimate goal is to create a distinct environment that allows a wide audience to be entertained with the most creative ideas and performers regardless of genre. As a production the event has no stylistic boundaries: it can incorporate circus artists, music, comedians, short film and hopefully more. Additionally, it is not wedded to a festival, time or place. We may pop up in your neighborhood park, at a nearby theater for one night, or just parading down your block.

Brilliant Corners’ inaugural event in 2011 transformed Chicago’s Eckhart Park into a playground for adults and children for three days. For our second fall showcase — running September 21-23, 2012 — Brilliant Corners takes over the Riverfront Theater with music, comedy and circus performances.

Starting with his early days as a member of the Velvet UndergroundJohn Cale has become one of the most influential musicians in modern rock. He returns to Chicago after a five year hiatus with his performance September 21st at the Riverfront Theatre.

Cale’s forthcoming October album release, Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood, is  the result of sessions held at Cale's LA studio. Days were spent experimenting with MPCs, pounding fists onto pianos, manipulating glitches and lots of signature viola drone while patiently waiting for songs to reveal themselves. There was also a spontaneous session with Danger Mouse to create the opening track, "I Wanna Talk 2 U."

As a producer Cale has reached a new plateau on this record. At the albums most maximal, it feels like looking at a collection of precious stones. Myriads of differently colored and textured surfaces carefully placed together, each finding their own space to beckon the ear. It's a blend of chaos and beauty in equal measure and a testament to the exploratory spirit at work, which ensures there's always something new to the ears on a John Cale record.

As a fantastic primer for the trail blazing legacy of John Cale, Zola Jesus opens the evening. The acclaimed solo project of Nika Roza Danilova, Zola Jesus, has gone from being an experimental teenage noisemaker to a full-fledged internationally celebrated electronic pop musician.

The unique event under a 10,000 sq. foot circus tent is sure to be one for the ages
