Featured Review from TimeOutChicago
April 17, 2011Billy Bungeroth ( Absolute Best Friggin’ Time of Your Life ) takes the reins for the Mainstage’s 99th revue and handles them well. Scenes including a racially charged standoff between Cubs and White Sox fans and a farewell to Daley get a lift from both Bungeroth’s whiz-bang staging. The mixed batch of Second City vets and newcomers, particularly Holly Laurent, Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson bring this new show awfully close to heaven more at timeoutchicago.com

May 02, 2012“Stop us if you’ve heard this one: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” Over the past 30 years Lifeline Theatre has made its name by staging classic literary titles, and they don’t get much more classic than the most beloved novel of all time, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. In this charming rendition, Lifeline’s appealing cast deftly brings to life the drawing-room humor and sweetly sincere pathos of the well-worn original, with nary a zombie in sight.”

Featured Review from Chicago Reader
May 24, 2012You don’t have to give a fig about America’s pastime (I certainly don’t) to enjoy this spirited stage version of the 1956 novel by Mark Harris, about a baseball team that bears a striking resemblance to the New York Yankees. All the familiar male bonding tropes are here, from pissing matches to the sweet moments when one guy watches another guy’s back, and Michael Menendian’s fine ensemble executes them with enough heart and verve to make them seem new. It doesn’t hurt that Harris’s original story is so strong, or that Eric Simonson’s 1992 stage adaptation is so graceful. But what really sells the show is the cast: these actors work together like a band of champions on a roll. Jack Helbig
