July 13, 2011It’s not a mere coincidence, oh no, that marketing events/free concerts/DJ nights seem to congeal around big music festivals. They are prime occasions for rubbing up against young, money-spending young people who dig new music and consuming liquids. In the case of Pitchfork Music Festival 2011, the side parties are a true and welcome alternative to what the fest has become- http://timeoutchicago.com/music-nightlife/14848603/unofficial-pitchfork-2011-after-parties-and-anti-parties-from-sailor-jerry-

Featured Review from TimeOutChicago
May 19, 2011Swedish pop artists are once again warming mainstream America’s hearts, and Lykke Li is among the best of the bunch: Though she doesn’t craft melodies as indelible as ABBA’s (who does?), she inherited that famous foursome’s idea of pop as a place for stylistic dress-up. Her latest, Wounded Rhymes, is another crystalline example of Li’s enchanting, minimal pop. more at timeoutchicago.com

Featured Review from Oh My Rockness
May 14, 2011Sweden’s Lykke Li is young twenty-something who is quickly becoming very popular. And it’s not because she’s cute like (a young) Debbie Harry and has a cool shock-of-blonde haircut. It’s because Lykke sings sweet, sometimes almost saccharine, indie-pop with subtle dance hooks that instantly get stuck in your head (for better or worse).more at ohmyrockness.com

Featured Review from Oh My Rockness
February 28, 2011Toronto’s Crystal Castles are a thrash duo that throws down some serious data-dance- rock jams. This furiously fun music is lo-fi, decidedly distorted, and entirely electrical. In other words, it all sounds like the soundtrack to most of those Atari 2600 games. more at ohmyrockness.com

November 05, 2010Pittsburgh’s Girl Talk is Greg Gillis, a monster mash-up machine with a HUGE record collection. This is a guy whose livelihood lives and dies by the sample. His latest album, Night Ripper, has been universally praised for the stunningly seamless snippets of songs he steals from… sorry, “borrows” from. more at ohmyrockness.com

February 16, 2011With 2008’s masterful Brighter Than Creation’s Dark, Drive-By Truckers resumed a run of great albums that many fans felt was broken with 2006’s A Blessing And A Curse, the band’s final record with singer-songwriter-guitarist Jason Isbell. more at avclub.com

Featured Review from TimeOutChicago
February 10, 2011Last year, Interpol released its self-titled fourth album to a lukewarm response. Hard to figure what people really expect, as to our ears the band’s formula—gothic melodrama and penthouse chic—has changed little from day one. Textural flourishes like piano, electronics and strings show the boys are growing more comfortable with computers and kept things fresh. This gig serves as a minor family reunion, as well. Interpol is now joined on the keys and vocals by Secret Machines veteran Brandon Curtis.

January 26, 2011Long known for exploring the interstitial space between indie rock and classic literature, The Decemberists became more interested in a couple of British musical movements of the ’70s, particularly electric folk and early heavy metalmore at avclub.com
