Lollapalooza's annual remix competition is back for 2011 - climb your way to the top and get a spot to play the festival on Perry's stage!

Overview
The Lolla Remix Throwdown isn’t just about your skills in the studio – because being an artist is way more than that, right? It’s also about rocking self-promotion, live performance and everything else that makes you the complete package. Start off by submitting your best original production in the open round. The contest will narrow down to the semi-finals and then to the finals where the top four will compete at a live event in Chicago! Your participation in the contest is goverened by the official rules.
 
The Open Round - Submit An Original Track
May 10th-May 22nd
From May 10th to May 22nd, artists will enter the contest by submitting their best original song or remix and building their artist profile page. Once posted, artists will heavily encourage fans to vote via the website, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and any other platforms available to them. Individuals can vote for each artist once per day. On May 22nd at midnight CST, the open round will close and 50 semi-finalists will be selected, comprised of the 40 with the highest voter scores and 10 hand-picked by the judges (regardless of vote score).
 
The Semifinals - Remix A Lollapalooza Artist
June 6th-July 1st
The votes are reset and the top 50 will have from June 6th to June 20th to create a new remix using tracks provided by the following 2011 Lollapalooza artists:

Midnight Conspiracy
Lady D

From June 20th to July 1st artists will once again promote their new remix and collect as many votes as possible. On July 1st at midnight CST, the top four with the highest rating (combination of fan votes and judges’ scoring) will advance to the live finals on July 30th in Chicago.
 
The Final Round - Live Performance Battle
July 30th
On Saturday, July 30th at Double Door in Chicago, the top four will compete via head-to-head DJ sets in front of a live audience. A grand prize winner will be chosen by an industry judging panel.
 
Talk It Up
Follow the Lolla Remix Throwdown on Twitter to get on-the-fly updates on the contest. We’ll be tweeting updates with the hashtag #lollaremix to keep people talking. Artists, get involved! Reply to the tweets, add the hashtag to your own tweets and encourage retweets to spread the word about the contest and drive people to your submission. We’ll also be sending out updates on our Facebook fan page, so make sure you’re following us there as well – who knows, you might get some new fans!

If you or your friends create multiple accounts (or try to use bots to vote for you), it’s cheating, and we will disqualify those votes. So please, don’t waste your time or ours cheating. See Official Rules here.



The Judges
The Lolla Remix Throwdown judges span all parts of the music industry, each lending a unique perspective to the competition. From musicians to bloggers, journalists to booking agents, they all have made a unique mark within music.

Josh Ferguson
TimeOut Chicago Nightlife Editor Josh Ferguson blogs and deejays for some of Chicago's best sites and clubs. Not only has he held residencies at city staples such as Smart Bar, Sonotheque, and Beauty Bar, he's also Red Bull's as “Mr. X” in Chicago, bringing awareness to the Red Bull Music Academy. Combine that with an extensive journalism resumé and it’s apparent why Ferguson is a self-described ‘musical curator’.

Moneypenny
DJs A-Cup and Mother Hubbard of Moneypenny have performed from Lollapalooza to the FADER magazine party at CMJ in New York. Acclaim in publications from URB to Venus and song placement with MTV, ABC and Showtime have earned the duo incredible respect in the electronic music scene. Perfectly summed up by URB magazine,"their fly, feminine mash-up effort blends sex and innocence, old school and new school, rock and roll."

Veronica Murtagh
Recently named in TimeOut magazine as one of Chicago's top electronic music bloggers, Veronica Murtagh is the founder of CreamTeam.tv - a fixture in Chicago's music scene. She also regularly assists with event promotion by organizing a wide range of DJ sets to full on DIY showcases, serves as co-founder and editor of Strangers in Stereo and has written content for SXSW's official site as well as serving on The Hype Machine's panel at CMJ.

Carter Adams
Carter Adams is one of the most recognized names at the world-renowned Windish Agency. He has worked his way from promoting shows in Iowa to placing bands at legendary music festivals such as Lollapalooza, Ultra, Pitchfork and Austin City Limits. In addition to booking, Carter has tour managed for acts including The Coup, Jose Gonazalez, Karen Ann and Battles.


Dani Deahl
DJ, producer, journalist, blogger - these are just some of the labels Chicago's Dani Deahl touts on her resume. She's interviewed the likes of David Guetta and Paul Oakenfold, played Lollapalooza twice and has had her music charted on Billboard. From regularly touring to writing for URB, TimeOut and Chinashop magazines to maintaining her own blog dsquared and releasing music, Dani's impact upon electronic music has been singular.

Red Bull Studio in Los Angeles is a world class, state of the art recording facility. The studio plays host to all levels of musicians, ranging from world renowned GRAMMY winning artists to undiscovered musical talent.

The studio features a Solid State Logic 9000 K-Series 48-channel mixing console, along with a Digidesign D-Command HD Pro Tools control surface. The room has a well appointed outboard gear selection, as well as a myriad of microphones, amps, and other recording equipment. We have one large live room, three isolation booths and a control room.

Red Bull Studio, Los Angeles was built in 2007 by acoustic designers Whitemark along with project manager Troy Germano of Studio Design Group/Germano Studios. The studio manager/engineer is Eric Stenman whose credits include artists such as: Nas, M.I.A. with Major Lazer, Wale, Good Charlotte, DJ AM, Weezer, All Time Low, and Asher Roth.

The Glitch Mob
Trio The Glitch Mob formed in 2006 wihin the burgeoning Los Angeles bass-driven ‘beat’ scene that also produced the likes of Daedelus and Flying Lotus. Winning over fans through showcasing technology during live performances, the group quickly started touring more widely along the West Coast, and to festivals worldwide. Their debut album, “Drink The Sea” debuted on the iTunes Electronic Chart at number five and single, “Drive it Like You Stole It”, was #2 on XLR8R’s Top Downloads of 2010. Their Lolla Remix Throwdown selection, “Fortune Days”, features lush live instrumentals and dreamy synths.

Midnight Conspiracy (feat. Lucky Date)
Aux.tv says of Chicago’s Midnight Conspiracy, “[they] have surpassed the label of ‘up-and-coming’, and have established themselves as relevant contributors to remix artistry.” This rise has been quick – the heavy hitting electro trio debuted in January 2010 and since then, have released over a dozen tracks, hit Hype Machine’s top five a total of five times and been featured on Kissy Sell Out’s BBC Radio 1 show. Not only that, they run clothing line Dead Fame and throw their own events, including the Chicago branch of New York’s “Girls & Boys” night. Check out their track for the competition, “Veyron”, done with fellow Chicago artist Lucky Date.

Lady D
Chicago’s Darlene Jackson, a.k.a. Lady D, has been rocking dance floors with her signature sound of updated Chicago house since 1995. Recognized for her top-notch A&R, production and remixing talents as owner of D’lectable Music, Lady D is respected industry-wide for releasing some of the hottest records in house over the past three years. Featured in magazines such as Billboard, Spin and DMA, it’s easy to see her impact in shaping house music over the years. Her song for the Lolla Remix Throwdown, “Touch”, is a brand new project featuring a sultrier side of Lady D, complete with her own vocals gracing the track.
