5 Chicago Women-Fronted Bands & Musicians We Love

Chicago's music scene is always booming and evolving, and women are a part of that.


Women are behind so many of Chicago's favorite songs and performances, but they aren't always getting the recognition they deserve.


This Women's History Month, we're putting women front and center, highlighting a lineup of local women-led bands and solo artists you'll want on repeat.

Beach Bunny


Led by singer and guitarist Lili Trifilio, Beach Bunny began as a solo project before evolving into a full band in 2017. The members met at DePaul University and have stayed close to Chicago's music scene since, even creating and headlining their annual Pool Party Festival at the Salt Shed. Their latest single, "Year of the Optimist," is now streaming!

Kate Stephenson


Chicagoland born and raised, Kate Stephenson just released her fourth studio album This Is What You Get, earning praise for its lyricism, raw vocals, and stripped-back production. Stephenson is not only a singer, songwriter, and producer, but also tours with other artists as a photographer. Her reflective, passionate music is taking the indie scene by storm, and her live shows promise an intimate, cathartic vibe for anyone in their feelings.

Jamila Woods


Jamila Woods is a Chicago-born singer, songwriter, and poet whose work blends R&B influence with sharp, introspective lyricism. Having first gained attention with her debut album Heavn, Woods' art celebrate Black identity, self-love, and community. Her music is both personal and political, making her a powerful voice in modern soul.

Sierra Sikora


At just 20 years old, Sierra Sikora is juggling festival sets, viral songs, and live shows— all while attending college. She's known on TikTok for her creative covers of popular songs, and her latest single, "Horizon Line," is gaining serious traction on the platform. She played Lollapalooza with the John Walt Foundation in 2025, and is currently on tour supporting Rin.

Half Gringa


Half Gringa is an indie rock project led by Isabel Olive, known for blending emotional lyrics with soft guitar melodies. Their music explores identity, relationships, and culture, mostly drawing from Olive's Mexican-American heritage. Their latest single, "Nelly in a Dream" is out now!
